Diving in Puerto Galera
The diving in Puerto Galera is absolutely spectacular, which is why Puerto Galera is the most popular diving destination in the Philippines. The warm, clear waters which surround Puerto Galera are teeming with thousands of species of sealife, and the Verde Island passage is recognised as one of the most biodiverse bodies of water on the planet.
Because of it’s geographical location, Puerto galera is protected from typhoons and ocean swells by the nearby islets and mountains, which means the diving in Puerto Galera is a year-round activity. There is, however, the high and the low seasons. The low season (June to mid December) us usually marked with more rain and occasional windy periods. That being said, don’t be put off from coming to Puerto Galera during this time, as some of the best visibility is found during the low season, and although there may be more rain, you will have plenty of hot, sunny days to enjoy.
Diving in Puerto Galera: Diver Education
If you have never dived before, you may want to consider a Discover Scuba Diving course. This is a half day course which will familiarise you with your equipment and basic scuba skills, before you are taken on your first, closely supervised dive in relatively shallow waters. It’s a great way to find out if scuba diving is something you want to pursue before investing time and money in an Open Water qualification. The Open Water course usually takes about 3-4 days and consists of practical exercises in confined and open water to develop your diving skills, and an academic section to acquaint you with diving theory, dive planning etc. The academic side of things uses manuals and dvd’s to make the learning quick and easy, and you can even cover the academics online before diving in Puerto Galera, which means more time in the water and less time in the classroom.
If you are already a qualified Scuba diver, there are many speciality courses available such as wreck diving, night, navigation, and photography to name a few. These specialities will help you towards getting your Advanced qualification, and for those considering a career in Scuba diving, you can continue your development to become a Divemaster or even dive Instructor.

Diving in Puerto Galera: Dive Sites
With over 40 dive sites within a few minutes of the dive centres, you are truly spoilt for choice when diving in Puerto Galera. There is everything from shallow dives over beautiful coral fields, to high voltage drift dives and deep underwater canyons. There are also several wrecks in the waters of Puerto Galera in both deep and shallow waters, and nearly all of the dive sites are abundant with marine life of every size, shape and species. For underwater photographers, the diving in Puerto Galera is hard to beat!
